 Police Foundation of Colorado Springs, in collaboration with Shield616, has raised more than $400,000 in just under one year to help ensure the safety of Colorado Springs police officers. PFCS announced in March 2017 that it was embarking on a two-year fundraising effort to help purchase tactical vest packages for all 685 Colorado Springs police officers. The Foundation, working with Shield616, met its fundraising goal in less than 12 months thanks to incredible community and local business support. The final 33 tactical vest packages were presented Jan. 9, 2018 to the police department’s command staff, including the chief of police, deputy chiefs, commanders and lieutenants.
“Police Foundation of Colorado Springs is extremely grateful to the numerous donors who helped make this a reality,” said Kyle Hybl, PFCS board chairman. “Our ability to accomplish our goal more than 13 months ahead of schedule speaks volumes about community support for our dedicated police officers.” Each tactical package includes a vest designed to protect officers from bullets fired by high-velocity weapons. The kits also include a ballistic helmet, goggles, a gunshot wound trauma kit and a solo monocular. Just days after the final vest packages were distributed to the command staff, 54 new police officers graduated from the city’s police academy. Each graduate received a tactical vest package purchased with a generous donation from Church For All Nations in Colorado Springs. While all current Colorado Springs police officers have this potentially life-saving equipment, PFCS and Shield616 will continue to raise funds to ensure future police department academy graduates receive tactical vest packages upon graduation.
