Police Foundation of Colorado Springs is a non-profit organization dedicated to aiding the Colorado Springs Police Department. Through donations of funds and resources, the Foundation supports Colorado Springs police officers by promoting excellence within the department, and improving public safety for the city of Colorado Springs by providing resources not otherwise readily available from traditional sources.
“As one of the nation’s largest 50 cities, our police force faces many challenges on a day-to-day basis,” said
Dr. George Reed, chairman for Police Foundation of Colorado Springs. “Police Foundation of Colorado Springs provides an important avenue for the private sector to come alongside the department and support its mission.”
In the United States, police foundations trace their history back to July 22, 1970, when Ford Foundation president McGeorge Bundy announced the establishment of a Police Development Fund to foster improvement and innovation in American policing.
Now commonly known as a police foundation, the prevalence of these organizations spread across the nation in no time with notable police foundations representing major police departments across the United States. With the support of police foundations, innovations, social experiments, and community policing occurred in police departments nationwide.
Traditionally, police foundations support police departments with resources not available from their respective cities. As the major source of private support, police foundations share in the vision that communities are made safer and better places to live thanks to the hard work and dedication of police officers.
Police foundations serve local police departments by fundraising, granting tax-exempt gifts and individual donations to improve the effectiveness of police activities. To serve and protect to the best of their abilities, police departments need to keep pace with advanced technology, new equipment, and professional development. Police foundations help in this process by serving as a flexible arm of support.

Police Foundation Makes An Impact
Police Foundation’s first grant to the Colorado Springs Police Department helped send three of the Department’s senior leaders to the Senior Management Institute for Police at Boston University. Here is what one of the attendees said about their experience in summer 2018:
I am incredibly grateful to Police Foundation for sending me to the Senior Management Institute of Police (SMIP). The three-week academic program is of superb quality and is a once in a lifetime opportunity to attend. As an intensive leadership boot camp, I studied under the instruction of professors from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, MIT’s Sloan School of Management, John Hopkins, and other top caliber universities.
In addition to the excellent academics, the program offered numerous opportunities for networking. My class consisted of more than 80 senior law enforcement leaders from all across North America. Classroom discussions focused on organizational problems being faced by all of our agencies. Regardless of the size or geography of any one particular police department many of our challenges remain the same.
When I am developing a project or looking at how to improve practices within our department, I access my network of classmates to learn and share best practices. The information and professional contacts I gleaned from the program will support my work throughout the rest of my career.
The opportunity to attend SMIP would not have been possible without the Police Foundation. I am grateful for your continuing support of the men and women of our great department.

A Message from the Police Chief
October 10, 2022
Thank you for taking the time to visit the website for Police Foundation of Colorado Springs’ (PFCS). PFCS is an outstanding non-profit organization created in 2009 to help finance programs and expenses for the Colorado Springs Police Department that are not funded by the Colorado Springs City budget. Since its inception, the Foundation has raised over $1.5 million and has distributed more than $1,000,000 to the police department through grants and contributions. These vital funds help support professional development, equipment purchases, wellness programs and events, and a variety of other programs to include:
Everyone knows how challenging the last few years have been for our community and for law enforcement in general. On numerous occasions throughout the year, PFCS took it upon themselves to provide food and drinks along with thank you cards for our employees. The benefit of them doing that was obvious on the faces of everyone who works at CSPD.
In the months of preparation for the annual Medal of Valor event, Police Foundation of Colorado Springs does an incredible job planning and coordinating the awards ceremony and dinner, honoring the department’s officers who have gone above and beyond in the service to our citizens and city. We are very appreciative to Police Foundation of Colorado Springs’s staff for the time and effort that goes into this important event.
Another Colorado Springs Police Department partner is Penrose St. Francis Hospital. As an individual corporate donor to Police Foundation of Colorado Springs, Penrose St. Francis Hospital made it possible for Police Foundation of Colorado Springs to purchase trauma kits for each graduating recruit class since 2015.
Each day, men and women of the Colorado Springs Police Department serve and protect our community. Police Foundation of Colorado Springs is an important partner in that effort. The Colorado Springs Police Department would like to express our appreciation to Police Foundation of Colorado Springs for their continued unwavering support.
Sincerely,
Adrian Vasquez
